Introduction

A handful of NPCs around Hoenn will swap one of their Pokémon for one of yours. Each trade wants a specific species in return, and the Pokémon you get back comes with a nickname, a held item, and stats fixed by the game rather than rolled from a wild encounter.

Trading is also one of the easiest ways to trigger evolutions that require a trade, and the Pokémon you receive already knows a moveset chosen by whoever put the trade together, which can be handy early on.
